In July AMC sent Conservation Action Network (CAN) members a message encouraging all to contact their representatives about the importance of full funding for the Land Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), money that comes from off shore drilling fees to support the conservation of America’s treasured natural resources. Their calls successfully encouraged the U.S. House of Representatives to pass the Consolidated Land, Energy, and Aquatic Resources (CLEAR) Act on July 30, which included a provision to fully fund LWCF. Though this takes us one step closer to full funding, now it is the Senate’s turn to vote and they need to hear from you.
In addition to calling your Senators in person, please send a Letter to the Editor of your local paper about the importance of LWCF. Use the power of your voice in the local press to urge your community and Senators into action. Outdoor enthusiasts can already point to many treasured places that LWCF has preserved from Hibernia County Park, Pa. to Ragged Mountain, Conn. and the Grafton Loop Trail in Maine. Inform your community about the importance of Senate support for full funding of LWCF.
