Hurricane Sandy Update: Fire Island Cabin Status & Trail Volunteers Needed

Fire Island Cabin Update:
Fortunately AMC’s volunteer-managed Fire Island Cabin was spared irreparable damage from Hurricane Sandy. The Cabin has no structural damage from wind, and it’s currently expected to reopen on schedule for the 2013 season. Some moderate water damage was sustained in the Cabin and in other structures on the property, and clean-up will begin once full access to the island is restored. LEND A HAND: Volunteers Needed to Clear Trails after Hurricane Sandy:The AMC volunteers who maintain hiking trails throughout the New York - North Jersey area need immediate help to clear the trails damaged by Sandy!

Most of the work requires no experience and is not physically demanding – it's mostly cutting brush and dragging branches off the trails. If you can volunteer, contact Trails Chair Kate Whitney-Bukofzer at etakwhit@aol.com and provide your name, contact information, days of the week you are available, whether you have your own transportation, and the area where you can work (New York East of Hudson, Northern New Jersey, New York West of Hudson or Pelham Bay Park). Kate will in turn forward your information to the local AMC trail maintainers who will reach out directly to you.
