Outdoor recreation and tailpipe smog don’t mix. Sounds like the obvious but unfortunately urban and rural areas across the country can still see unhealthy air pollution from the local and wind transported emissions from vehicle exhaust. That’s why the news today (March 29th, 2013) that the Obama Administration has proposed new tailpipe and fuel standards is a breath of fresh air. Our organization signed on to a letter earlier this March expressing the need for this clean air policy and look forward to the final rule by the end of 2013. Finalizing this rule will result in air pollution reductions equivalent to taking 33 million cars off the road. The benefits to bikers, hikers, paddlers and joggers, would be clean air in our lungs and healthy outdoor exercise.
